Health Isn’t Only Personal

Nicole Karlis, Health Journalist Exploring Care, Wellness, and Connection

Health is often framed as an individual problem, something to optimize, manage, or fix on your own. But that framing leaves out something important.

As a health and science journalist, I'm passionate about reporting on how our well-being is shaped not only by personal choices, but by the systems, cultures, and structures we live within. From access to care to cultural expectations around motherhood and wellness, health is never just personal.

Exploring Health
Through a Wider Lens

My work focuses on asking bigger questions:

What makes health possible in the first place?
Who has access to care and who doesn’t?
How do culture and community shape what we experience as “wellness”?

I collaborate with editors, producers, podcasts and organizations looking for thoughtful, evidence-based perspectives on health and wellness.
